The New Austrian Tunneling Method, or Sequential Excavation Method, is applicable for soft ground mixed face tunnels in urban environments, caverns, adits, bifurcations and shallow tunnels where it is not always practical or economical to use a tunnel boring machine or conventional excavation methods. This reference book on planning and design is for beginning tunnel design and construction engineers and project planners as well as graduate students. It focuses on technical issues such as tunnel waterproofing, along with the various methods necessary to design a dry tunnel and encourages intelligent questioning for the development evaluation of any NATM/SEM tunnel project.
